Do they all rattle?

So my car is in the garage again this morning to try again to fix the rattles that have plagued this car since I bought it 9 months ago.

At one point, they had managed to resolve ALL rattles but then the speedo misted up and needed replacing which of course meant dashboard out and surprise surprise, the rattles returned.

I understand that the seatbelt mechanism rattle it a "know fault". It's just a shame that the "known fix" doesn't seem to work

But it's the rattle from somewhere behind the satnav screen that really bugs me. Clearly heat related and thus intermittent which of course makes it harder to diagnose and fix.

So my car is in today for a week. The dealership is under instructions not to call me until they have found the rattle and fixed it.

So as a loaner I have a 61 plate C220 CDI Coupe

And guess what. It has EXACTLY the same rattle in EXACTLY the same place as mine.

Hence the question.

Do all the current C classes rattle?

:mad::mad::mad:

Is it your left knee joint that's rattling? :D

Its a problem for all the new cars with big wheels and firm suspension - they all rattle. The only solution is to buy a non sport model, or one with airmatic! (which they dont offer on the C class)
My 2003 e55 amg - doesnt rattle.

My previous car (a 335D with super rock hard BMW suspension) didn't rattle.

My car before that (a Mondeo ST with silly big wheels and spine breaking suspension) didn't rattle (although it did break down a lot)

Indeed I can't think of any car I have ever owned (even cars with over 100,000 miles on the clock) that have had this sort of problem.

Enjoy:

Hi @Mark - I take your point about your previous cars. I must say, I was not so lucky, My Z4 rattled (18" Runflats) and so did my alfa 156 (17" sports suspension) etc. My C32 never rattled and rode very well in fact.
I hope you get it sorted! What are the roads like where you live? around manchester, the roads never really got fixed after the last 2 winters so lots of potholes, and this can only makes things worse I guess.

The roads round here aren't great but I travel all over the UK and I can't say any areas are better than others.

I've had two E Class - and both have been rattling good cars. Nothing major, but enough to convince you that MB build quality is not what it used to be.

Strangely, none of mine have rattled or deteriorated cabin wise with over 40k done in both of them, even that basket case of a car I have now, there is no rattles etc.

There is some lose trim bit it clipped back into place and has been fine. Interior wise, the MBs are IMHO brilliant. Relaxing, spacious and comfortable.

No one has mentioned rattles with the pre facelifted 204, so why does the improved one cause bother?

Haven't noticed a rattle in any of the w204's i've driven...

I've got just one in mine which only happens very occasionally (from the rear ash-tray), if it was more frequent I'd probably do something about it.

I have a couple of really annoying intermittent rattles and creaks from mine as well.Dashboard area around the bottom of the comand screen and another from somewhere around the back of the passenger seat.Nothing i have tried has stopped them but i am more prepared to live with them than to have MB remove the dash. That scares me a bit.

Sounds like the ones I am trying to nail (plus the seatbelt mechanisms)

Can't say I've noticed any rattles in my 2008 W204, you could always turn the radio up louder :D

My 2010 S204 has been faultless regards rattles, despite 19" wheels.

I am very surprised to be honest.
