possibly building a new fuel tank and i will be fitting a dip tube fuel level sender and the ones on ebay say 0-190 ohms
im wondering what the original is
has anybody done anything like this
thanks guys

For my 230TE W124 the resistance of the fuel sender are: 77, 64,43,22,4 ohms for respectively: empty,1/4,1/2,3/4, Full

I just posted on fuel gauge problems and how I fixed mine by replacing the calibration potentiometer (very close to the dash gauge) with two fixed resistors and my fuel gauge flicker has stopped.
Hope this helps

Neil Where is you post on the sinder in the fuel tank ?
Hi,
I wrote about fixing a flickering gauge in this part of the forum - up a level from here called "Solution to a flickering fuel gauge"
Happy to enlarge any details you need...

I should add that I made those measurements with the sender on the bench - moving the float and measuring the resistance across two of the terminals on the gauge (the third is for the warning light I believe) - the 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 measurements are therefore NOT calibrated against measured quantities of fuel in the tank - I will calibrate the Spiyda GaugeWizard by putting exact quantities of fuel in the tank and then measuring the resistance on level ground with the sender in place. At that point I might end up trusting the fuel gauge :)

The repair I wrote about in the other post was about stopping the gauge from flickering - which no amount of calibration would have stopped.

Hope this helps,
Neil

Well i did open up the tank sender after removing it today ..The float was stuck on a crusty shaft 3/4 up , it was thick black gum ,.Got to work on it and the shaft is rusty in places more at the top of its travel . The fuel that came out of the sender was like pear juice . Nothing like fuel as we know it. Also both O rings had a brown crust on them, as if it the retaining ring had been leaking at some time .These old cars of the 1980s are in for problems .I recon ethanol did my old pumps in and gummed up the sensor . Now the sender is ready to go back in .In the future i will look for another fuel tank sensor .
