Hello All

I got an Merc e220d AMG Line year 2017 and wonder if it has build in GPS TRACK?

In case it got stolen and I can then find its location.

How do i know it has built in, or find out where to activate it or even see / check my cars routes taken.

Also, can it be used for cheaper insurance etc.?!

My friends LandRover got stolen and the insurance was able to track it apparently :/ yeh comparing JLR with Merc here but lol just wondering

Please advise

Cheers

Your friends land rover must have had an aftermarket tracker fitted then as its not a standard item, although it can get fitted at the dealership before taking possession of the vehicle but its not jlr standard equipment

Right... apparently, my mate was not aware he had it fitted but wonder how his insurance would have known!??

Anyway... so, is there a way to find out if my car has got a GPS TRACK system!?

Or how do I add it to my car ? I read about this MercMe app but i cannot connect to my car ... is this a track!?

Please advise

Cars don't come with insurance-approved factory-fitted trackers.

However the car does have GPS and GSM, so you can find the location of the car if you have subscribed to the appropriate service.

Create a Mercedes Me account online, register your car, then check what services are available, and activate the relevant service.

You will then be able to access the Mercedes Me services (and the car's location) via the Mercedes Me app on your mobile phone.

If you can't register the car's VIN to your Mercedes Me account, call the Mercedes Me helpline on 00800 1777 7777.

Hey Markjay

Thanks for the advise, and sadly I had this app installed on my phone but for some reason I failed to complete the the registration process or who knows ....

I re-downloaded and added my car to the list, which is now pending for the activation :)

I shall try it today and see what I can get out of it.

During the registration, it asked me to enable some services like:

- GPS
- Breakdown
- Analysis
- control it via mobile
- parking assistance
- and many others

I have enabled them all, is there a charge to this or harm to it!?

I am new to this :)

Info for all, I recently figured that by double-pressing on the lockButton on the remote, it disables the WirelessGo feature which apparently stops criminals using the “repeater hack” to unlock & start your car without the key.

Thanks all

Whilst they may not allow you to track it, there was a recent report of Mercedes tracking cars with built in Mercedes Me to allow finance companies (their own I believe) to send the bailiffs to reposes them.

I think you’ll find that they can track the vehicle using the in-built SIM, nothing to do with Mercedes Me.

You need software to track a sim unless you are the network provider. The article explicitly referred to this being done via Mercedes Me.
