Does your SL500 R230 resonate at 1200 RPM?

I have noticed that my 2003 SL500 resonates in the cabin if I'm going uphill at around 1200 RPM. Is this normal or should I be under the car looking for heatshield or exhaust contacting the body? It can be felt buzzing through the steering wheel and floor sometimes. It's not bad at all but is noticable. Does anyone else have this noise or is it just me?

well, finally found some spare time and got the car booked in to get the mounts checked. I booked the car into Mercedes Independent Car Specialists in Ibrox, Glasgow. They took the car out for a drive, put it up on the ramp and removed all the panels underneath, gave the mounts a detailed inspection and 'lever' test ;). Then put it all back together and took it back out for another drive. The conclusion was the car is absolutely fine, the mounts are in excellent condition and I've nothing to worry about. Oh, and the cost of all this work..... £0. I was gobsmacked, I've had good service there before with my W211, but they got 11 out of 10 today, heartily recommend them and will be back in 4100 miles for my B service.

It could be the mount on the back of the gearbox it may look ok but i have had these collapse and when you look at them they look ok. But compare it to anew one and it will sit a lot higher.

Do you get the vibration through the car when its revved to 1200 rpm but not driving or is it only when its driving up a hill.

It could also be the torque convertor that is causing the problem as ive had these on W/V220 320cdi's.

Has it ever had the gearbox oil and filter changing

Ive heard of slight resonance (feels like its in the footwell or trans tunnel) from coolant getting into the transmission fluid.
This causes the torque converter to slip slightly hence the resonance / vibration, it starts off very feint but can get worse.

Only happens on models where the radiator shares a seperate trans cooler at the bottom, when the radiator fails coolant can contaminate the oil in the trans cooler.

Probably not the reason but worth checking if it re-occurs.

Gearbox man i spoke to told me it only takes an eggcup full of antifreeze to wreck the torque converter.
