Door handle interior led light.

Evening all, I have a orange led out on my passenger rear door handle. MB want £72.00 for a replacement then fitting . I assume it's the whole handle.


Any cheaper options? It's not keeping me awake at night just something I'd like to address. Car 2005 S Class ( W220 ) TIA for any replies.

I just fitted blue LEDs to my door handles, and it is entirely possible to DIY this.

I’ll be back at my desk on Tuesday evening (using my phone atm), and can PM you a few pages - pics, diagrams, etc.

I have a rather nice write up by a chap called Brian Rice, specifically for a W220, which I saved six years ago, plus my own notes, etc - these would be relevant for a retrofit to a car, with no factory fitted door handle lights.

Excellent...though I do have the lights, so should be easy.

I had a local to me car electrical guy have a look he said they are fibre optic.. He didnt really go into much detail.

Yes they are, the guide I have, describes in great details how to fix the fault, and even improve on the design, by making sure the new LED will last for a very long time (470 Ohm ¼W resistor used, instead of OEM 300 Ohm one, reducing the current from 29.5mA to 20mA).

I left the hyperlinks active in the file, as some are truncated, so if your antivirus throws a hissy fit, it's probably because of that (as I don't use Windows, I don't know much about these).
