Hi,
I am taking my SLK on the rolling road for the first time this Sat and wondering if anyone has any tips before I go on.

1. How do I disable the ESP/ASR system (the switch does'nt fully turn off the system)
2. Which is the optimum gear to run it in and how will the operator hold that gear on rollers?

Thanks.

Switch the ESP to the off position and let it run. It will have a bit of a paddy then shut down only to reactivate once all four wheels start turning again.
They will run the car into 4th gear then boot it but not using kickdown.

I have mine booked in on Sat for a power run too. The only problem is that if the operator floors it in 4th (even without hitting the kickdown switch), it will change down. Some places have a bit of kit that plugs into the engine management to lock the torque converter and hold a particular gear, but I'm not even sure if that's possible with Mercs. At any rate, the place I'm going to can't do that. However, I did take my old C5 Corvette there and they managed to get some meaningful numbers from it, so I just hope they can work something out with the CLK.

Not sure how much the going rate is, but I'm paying £53 all-in. Seems pretty steep, but the place I'm going to has a monopoly in my local area.

Cheers,
Ian.

I'd be interested in the results of your CLK dyno Ian.

Let us know how they go on with the kickdown situation, oh and post the power results, is it still standard btw?

Cheers,
Adam.

You could try unplugging the brake switch or taking the fuse out for the traction control, that would disable them.

Don't forget to put them back before you drive home! :)

Got mine dyno'd today, results at the wheels were 278bhp / 290lbs.ft so that's about 350bhp / 360lbs.ft at the flywheel (calculated) which is more or less spot on to OEM figures. This was all done using 3rd gear, they tried 4th gear but it kept kicking down. ESP just disabled itself when it realised the front wheels were'nt turning. Only cost me £30 as I went with the Audi-Sport RR day with me mate :D
