I received the following from my dealer when I found out that 6310 have been dsicontinued and I enquired about changing my phone cradle - which the salesman assurred me I could do for £95.

"On the 27th April this year, we were notified as a Mercedes-Benz retailer, by the manufacturer, that the E-Class was switching to a UHI form of telephone pre-wiring with effect from the beginning of June production. (Mercedes-Benz Infonet Reference 'PM-0044 - Telematics Update - Telephones') This system permits a wider range of phones including:
Nokia 6210; 6310; 6310i, Siemens S45, 45i, C45, M50,MT50, ME45, Siemens S55, C55, M55, Sony Ericsson T610, T630

Your car was built in March 2004 and delivered on the 1st April 2004 and unfortunately pre-dates the transition to the UHI system. "

Having spent over £500, I am expected to cough up another £1,000 for a working phone kit.

Who else has the same problem?

You could have bought the UHI conversion cable from MBenzNL and upgraded your car with a new PSE. A much simpler and much less expensive job.

Then all you would need is the cradle of your choice.

go to www.mbenznl.com and see what is on offer. Your dealer is doing his job which is fair enough but there are other ways.

Just for infomation if you are a O2 customer on monthly tariff you can still upgrade your phone to a nokia 6310i thru your service provider. They have kept a limited supply for there mthly pay customers. Don't forget to upgrades the wifes as well!!

Orange have no stock of 6310. The dealer has offered me a new one but it is not the answer. I have been sold a pup!

Even this commercial grade Nokia will last about a year so the answer is to fix the problem or go bluetooth like Audi, BMW, etc

What is a PSE? UHI conversion cable?
