I have a knock coming from the front of my c class but it's intermittent. Had ball joints replaced by MB under warranty which solved the squeak but not the knock/tap.
Had a look today under the bonnet and I suspect it's the cover for the washer pipes on the bonnet itself or the brake fluid hose which seems to tap when touching it
