E220 CDi W211 - Help / assistance on minor issues...

Hi,
I have a 2009 W211 E220 Cdi with ~62k miles on it. I bought it around 18 months ago with 40k on it.
I bought it from an independent and prior to them getting it, it had a full MBSH. They had it serviced in an independent, and since then I have had it serviced at an independent too.
In all, it's been reasonably trouble free, although the speedo gave bother and had to be replaced with a second hand unit. This was covered by the supplying dealer and was done by an independent.
Recently though I have been having two minor issues.
  1. On occasion the microphone for the handsfree BT will not communicate properly. I can hear callers perfectly, but they cannot hear me.
  2. The intermittent wipers don't function correctly on the auto setting. With the lightest skiff of rain it can go into hyper mode and at other times the wipers don't come on even when it is raining.
Can anyone give some advice on either or both of these complaints?

The wiper one is the one that's most annoying at present. I find I need to turn the wipers to constant speed even in low rain, or the wipers are going at high speed on the intermittent setting.

Thanks,
D.

The first one is hard to diagnose because it could easily be your phone that might be the issue as well as the car.

As for the second one, my only suggestion would be to give the windscreen a good clean as a dirty windscreen could be the culprit. This occasionally happens to me. Concentrate on the area where the rain sensor is, which is usually in front of the rear view mirror.

As above with the rain sensor, but I have had 2 x211's and my current 212 and the intermittent wipe function had/has a mind of it's own on all of them. Want them to wipe and they don't, don't want them to wipe and they do, and when they do wipe they seem to get faster and faster until I get fed up and turn them off and start again. The system has a mind of its own.

The worst is driving in completely dry conditions and suddenly for no reason at all the wipers will scrape across the windscreen, enough to give me a coronary at my ripe old age

Yep. That's why I turn them off completely as it's offputting when they try to wipe a dry screen. :wallbash:
