Hi All.
First post -Yay!

Anyway, just bought a 96 E220 Coupe (124) bout 3 weeks ago. Had a 94 saloon before that.

Just wondering if anyone recognises the behavior of the alarm/immobiliser:
(The windows have the silver sticker with "Fitted with Mercedes-Benz approved alarm system" )

Car fitted with the Mercedes Infrared locking system. Switch-blade key, one button to unlock/lock
Alarm is not activated /deactivated by turning key in passenger side door.
Siren in engine bay beside ABS, has 2 ultrasonics inside (boxy ones not the small round ones, passenger side one has a tiny LED un top)
Red led just beside parking brake release.

Firstly the siren does not work, I can arm the alarm using the infrared key, leave the windows open, as soon as I put my hand into the car the indicators will flash etc. I'm presuming the siren has had it.

Problem is the immobilser, works like this:
Unlock the car using the infrared remote, lights blink twice, doors unlock.
You now have about 30secs-1min to start the car.
If you don't start it in time, the indicators will flash and the red LED beside the brake release handle will turn on. (also if you move in the car the LED ontop of the Ultrasonic sensor will flash, as you move.)

Now, if you do start the car in time and are driving along, when you stop, and turn off the ignition, (staying in the car) you have 30sec-1min before the immobiliser will kick in again. Meaning you have to get out of the car and lock /unlock it. - Pain in the ass! Especially when you discoved this in one of those automatic/drag your car along car washes :)

Just wondering, does anyone recognise this alarm / immobiliser? is it normal?

BTW, it does not have the control box under the floor plate on the passenger side.

Cheers for any help.

shurl,

i am also having a nightmare with my alarm on my 92 CE w124, eventually found the control box next to the steering column, if you take the knob that operates the headlights off and undo the nut there, and also the screws underneath, the small panel will come away, my box was tucked away up there, mine was a MB alarm, box is about 6x4 inches and about an inch thick.
Multi pin connector in and multi pin connector out

Hope this is of some help - Good luck

Cheers Howard.
Had a look last night. Think I found the control unit you were talking about.
Has part number : Q350 01021 ? Sound right?
Definately says Mercedes-Benz on it.

Stange because its not behaving like a Merc alarm.

Took some pics of it I'll post later on.

There is also a larger ECU in there.

Cheers.

thats the kiddy....... make sure your central locking still works though as mine didn't after i took the box out !!!

Has it got MPT 1340 WT LICENCE EXEMPT written under the Q number ?

If it has then its your alarm box, i have been told by Mercedes Great West Road, that they dont need it to make you a new remote, just your chassis number and they can look it up on their computer and get one to match ( which is the problem i had) or get you a new box if your one is toast which might be why it is playing up ,i bought the car and the guy i bought it off had lost the remote.

Me being me, still havent managed to get up there to sort it out yet !!

Anyway good luck !

Shurl,
I haven't played around with my system much.
Do you have an alarm enable/disable lock inside your glove box ?
If so, try it with the lock set to the other position.

Hiya PJH,

Its fitted with a passenger airbag, so no glovebox.
The only "key switch" is the usual one thats on the siren.
Does absolutly nothing, turn the key to either position. The alarm is still activated (indicators etc)

Ok, sorry for the delay with these.
I've attached the photos from under the dash.

I assume this is the contol unit Howard:

Which was attached as you can see in this pic:

Don't think it has the "License Expempt" on it.

The control unit does have a logo on it.
Hexagon shape split into segments.
Bad description, sorry. I'm sure I've seen it before. Scorpion? or CEL?

More help Please on this thread for newcomer!!

We have just bought a w124 e200 1995 estate 90k azurite

Fantastic value for money!! 1 seventh of original price! the 2.0l is fine for our use by the way - it is a bit sluggish but my wife needs slowing down.

1 problem is the alarm/imobiliser as described in this thread.#

Have the factory system, with red/green lighrts in doorhandle etc

The siren doesn't work but that is not a problem.
Only one remote works and I have checked the batteries -ok, so must be the button on the remote. Can these be opened to check or do you have to buy a new one?
Alternatively can I disarm/bypass the immobiliser as it is a pain to use with 3 kids dog etc
I am worried if the 1 remote that works packs in we won't be able to start the car.
Any advice most welcome

Thanks

have you tried re-syncing that zapper with the car - i think the process is - unlock (mechanical) - zap IR twice quickly, ign on and start (well - the remotes seem v similar to mine, and my MBSS blurb says somthing like this...)

Thanks

Thanks I will try tonight - the remote is the one that has been used most and I think the button is worn. I have tried to disassemble it to have a look- without any joy

On our W124 the key switch in mounted on the panel in the passenger footwell beneath the airbag.

I have two small keys - do they just switch off the siren or the whole system? From an earlier thread I know that I have a control panel behind the parking brake release - is this where I switch it off?

alarm problem cabrio

Hi there,

I know this is an old post but I have exactly the same alarm problem as Shurl.

Could you tell me how the problem as eventually resolved? I have to lower the window and lock/unlock using the key fob (pointed at the door lock) to disable the alarm if the engine is switched off as the alarm automatically kicks in after 30 secs

Thanks for any pointers you can give.

Michael

If you're in the car with the engine off, leave the ignition key in the first position (ignition off, radio and windows working). The immobiliser will not arm itself.
