E220 Noisy engine

My E220 engine is very noisy - it sounds like a diesel when idling, in the front of the engine is a small damper which was very loose so I took it off, will this effect the vibrations?

It is probably the damper or the tensioner causing this problem in the first place.

You do need it on there although early 202 c180's did not have them.

I had the same noise when I first purchased my E220 and replaced the damper. This made a noticeable difference and certainly quietened the engine on tickover.
