Sorry if this has been brought up before, I did a search and couldn't find definitive results on it the economy of an E230.

I may be treating myself to a W210 E230 pre-facelift in the coming days. And having tried to do some research before diving in, I have been getting mixed responses from my question about the MPG from an E230, extra-urban driving mostly. Some saying late teens, some saying early to mid twenties, and others saying up to mid thirties

TBH that's a big vague, I'd like to know an average ball park figure, considering petrol has sky rocketed recently I don't want to be running something which costs limbs to fuel! My current car is getting between 31.0 to 36.8 MPG extra-urban. And I could live with mid-twenties when I'm not stretching the legs :thumb:

Could I ask anyone with an E230 (or similarly engined Merc) to give me their estimated MPG figures please.

I had a 210 200 kompressor , it was getting around 27 28 mpg on mixed driving .The car was a 6 speed manual . I dont know the figures for the 230 but id expect around the same . There a lower powered engine the the 200 k , i think around 135 bhp , wheres the 200 k is around 163 bhp . Might be better considering a 200 k , you have more power , same MPG but lower road tax , the 200 k is 614 euro pa , the 230 is over 800 euro pa .

Genuinely you'd need to drive it yourself to know for certain. I get mid 20s average out of a CLK55 AMG. I got 30mpg average out of my old W202 C230k which has basically the same engine as the 210 you're talking about only with forced induction. Motorway cruising on a long journey would see just over 35mpg, a-road thrashes and queueing in towns would see mid 20s. It was never that great on fuel but never that bad so frankly driving it hard seemed like good sense! Good luck with whatever you choose.
