Hi
We just got another E240 , which had been stood a while, seems to have developed a bit of whine on over run and in drive, footbrake was very stiff & Tight ( Thought the rear pads may be ginding ? then thought wheel bearing, ( But had brand new mot unless they missed it,? Q: are the E class renowned for noisey diffs :dk: propshafts ect , or shall I just get my mechanic to check it out. Thanks in advance ;)

Check the tyres firstly. Diffs on the 210's don't often whine.

thanks for that blackc55, but its not that kind of noise, brand new rear tyres ! its very transmissional or diff, but in hindsight may still just be the rear whell bearing singing a bit, we just just pray its not the auto box !!!, but we'll flush it next week and new oil anyway " Cheers"

Funnily enough, I've been trying to sort out what I think is a worn rear wheel bearing on my e220 recently,( been meaning to post up a pic of the driveshafts for Olly to look at but haven't had time) Anyhow, while the car was up in the air I thought I'd stick the winter wheels & tyres on. Lo and behold most of the noise I could hear before has disappeared. There's still a low rumble which is almost certainly a bearing but it's barely audible. The summer wheels are 17" alloys with Falkens 452's on, the winter wheels 15" steelies with Pirelli mud & snow tyres fitted. I'm not certain it's a wheel bearing making the noise now, it hardly changes pitch when cornering, maybe a diff or gearbox bearing, I've changed the propshaft bearing which made no difference.
