E250 auto tailgate operation normal?

Hi, I installed a used tailgate motor into my 200 e250 and it operates well. However from the fully open position, if i interrupt the downward operation in the first few cms, it slips back up to the top. Is this normal? Before I replaced the motor I replaced the gas struts.
