Unless its a homebrew with an engine out of the later model drafted in....

I would wager that it used to have a different engine, the first time the 2.7 5cyl was used was in the W211 and not in the W210.

The seller is called mercedes-japanese There is probably a clue there...

The W210 was available in 270 or 290 form, but not in the UK. The UK concessionaire decides what cars will be imported via them and they don't take all models.

This looks like a EU parallel import car, to me.

I recall numerous W210 2.9TD taxis at Frankfurt Airport when I was commuting there regularly in 1997.
