1997 e300 td estate
Hi All
New merc owner 1997 e300 td estate.

I have a few issues with it. I don't know what the things are called so, I will attempt to describe them.

1)At the front of the engine I can see a bearing rattling, I was told it was a jolly/jockey bearing. I would like to know if this is something that needs addressing imediately or not, and the correct name so i can buy the bits to do the job. Is it an easy fix? for me on the drive.

2)I was shown some rubber bushes under the back end/axle.
I was told that this is a massive job to replace all of them.
The symptom is a knocking noise going over bumps and sometimes it sounds like a heavy bang like the back end has play in it.
Was told the axle, brake pipes, exhaust and god knows what else to be taken off to do this job.

3)I have a leaking front drivers side shock absorber, is this something to attempt or leave to a garage?

4)On leaving to sit and idle it seems to miss a beat. Thats the best I can describe it it happens may every 20 seconds or so.

Big list I know, its a big car.

I hope one or more of you experts and fellow owners can help.
Thank you in advance.

The bearing is the idler pulley for the belt tensioner, the rear subframe bushes definitely need doing, replacing dampers is easy, the missing could be an air leak into the clear plastic pipes due to old O rings on the clip in fittings.

Hi Dieselman
Thank you very much for your knowledge.

Is the subframe bushes a big expensive job, could a local garage do it , could I do it on the drive.

Not sure what/where the dampers are or if it is a big job. Any chance you could enlighten me.

Idler pulley belt bearing, is this an easy job to do on the drive/expensive.

Sorry if the questions seem a bit silly to you, but I am clueless with these cars always had motorbikes and crap cars before.

Thanks again for your help.
