Just purchased a used w212 facelift hybrid estate x lovely dip led lights , main beams a yellow halogen ! Has anyone upgraded to hid or led main beam ?

I had an E300 S212 2014 year which had the same as yours led dipped halogen main beam which seemed stupid to me after all Mercedes are not cheap cars, that said the headlights were not too bad but I get your point.

I rarely used mine at night and it was leased so I never bothered.

I feel sure someone would have done this so hopefully they will be along soon.

Osram Nightbreaker Laser (for maximum range and brightness) or Osram Nightbreaker Silver (for optimal compromise between brightness and longevity) will make a big difference. You'll need 4 x H7 bulbs. You'll also need LED bulbs for the parking lights, for visual effect I.e. so that all the lights at the front will be the same colour.

There's also a STAR hack that will dim the DRLs (instead of switching them off) when the headlamps come on - again, for the visual effect.

Halogen to LED conversion kits are being sold on eBay, though these are technically illegal to use in the EU and UK (typically described in the small print as 'for off-road use only' or 'not to be used on public roads' etc), so could in theory cause issues at MOT time or if the car is involved in an insurance claim (since the LED conversion will be treated as 'undeclared modification' which could invalidate the policy), not to mention the potential road safety issues from poorly designed kits etc.

BTW, HID upgrades are rarely done these days, firstly because HID is now old tech (superceded by LED), and also because of the massive cost of a road-legal retrofit that must include headlamp washers and automatic height adjustment.

I other words, an illegal upgrade to HID (i.e. without also retrofitting the other mandatory and expensive items) is a waste of time because at this point you might as well just fit LEDs which will be equally illegal but much brighter.... to clarify, I am not condoning either, I am just trying to explain why HID conversions (both legal and illegal) fell out of favour in recent years.
