HI TO ALL, i have 99 300td with 200000 on the clock, theres a vibration on start up until engine is very hot as in driving for half an hour or more, the vibration is only when stationary sometimes in n or d on auto box. some guy down the pub say its possible the torque converter is causing this and loosens when very hot? any advice very welcome. also the outside temp gauge reads -38 all the time is there a way of correcting this thanks.

Check your engine mountings for the vibration and for the clock, you will probably need a new display. Search the forum for temp display by Pluggers as he did a how to on it a while ago

I agree with Ian about the vibration but would differ on the temp reading. It's probably the sensor in the front bumper gone AWOL.

thanls lads but can not under stand how engine mounts iff worn are effecting the vibration when cold but when the car runs a good few miles it stops but leave to cool again reappears? when engine starts from cold seems like its hitting the bulk head obviously its connected maybe... are these best bought from euro, gsf , main dealer or dronsfields at oldham.
thanks again lads ..

Because engine mounts are made from metal and rubber, which behave differently with temperature changes. They're also oil-filled, the rubber cracks with age and the oil leaks out.

Trust me, if you have 200,000 miles on the clock, you need new engine mounts. See the Howto section for a guide on their replacement, its not a big job.

Go to the MB dealer parts desk, and get the mounts from there. They're not expensive. Its also worth buying a transmission mount and doing that at the same time, you only need one, its very cheap, and it sits at the back of the gearbox, very easy to change, just be careful when jacking up the transmission pan, use a big thick plank of wood.
