Hello friends,

I need to replace the turbo actuator on my e320 cdi (2005 il6) , recently on rare occasions the vehicle will have a loss of power. No check engine lights will show though, a restart will restore power. It will work fine for days, and then one day have the issue until restarted.

After being connected to star, codes showed for 'boost pressure regulator' etc. which I believe means the turbo actuator is playing up intermittently?

I see you cannot buy this separately from Mercedes, however they seem to be available from other suppliers.

I have been told it is possible to replace this without removing the turbo ? Minimising labour costs... any ideas?

This is the final job I have to do on this car before it is at 100% mechanically, it already has had much work done to it. STAR report is clean apart from this.

Cheers,
Abs

We have replaced a few of these in the past without sucess. They work for a week or so then fail again. We replace the turbo's now with NEW Garret units. That is your best option tbh.

That's depressing, mine has gone as well.

My mechanic has sent the motor back twice for a refurb and it's still in limp mode, I only need it to work for about a week as I will be part exchanging it.

Humph

How many hours of labour is it to remove the turbo charger and fit a new one on a E320CDI IL6 please? As opposed to the labour time to just replace the actuator.

Thanks Ollie.

Gawd I hate turbo diesels... Petrol N/A all the way :D

Good luck Abs!

perhaps failing replacement actuator is broken at same reason as original, jamming vanes or smthg? I have read couple of success stories, no own experience...

Cheers Mike :)

The M112 in my CLK has been trouble free, but it also does 30MPG on a good run, I get 52+ on the CDI. I reckon its worth getting this last job done, as its had so much £££ spent on it already (new gearbox, TC, etc.)

True, I have heard stories of some people replacing the actuator and not having any issues after...

I think the turbo itself is ok, as when the actuator is working the car boosts and drives spot on..

I also read the actuator must be aligned precicely in order to get correct control range of actuator. With incorrect one if there is no suitable gap in ignition on when vnt is open, actuator keeps banging on the dead end and surely will broke itself. I also found some pics about repairing condensators inside actuator etc :)

I’m confused...

Does anyone know how long it will take to access the actuator on the in-line 6 320cdi?

I am told it’s a 20 min job on the V6 but not sure on the IL6

Bump

One way to find out Abs.. put the frisby down lookout yer smallest ratchet spanner, Roll up yer sleeves and dive right in.. if all goes wrong you've still got a spare car right??? Or is that one dead too..:(

The Clk is as always running 100%, oh the simplicity of a N/A petrol lump!

Actuator replaced, codes reset on star. Turbo cleaned... all seems well!

Actuator supplied by Fast turbo (Home) good service.

Hi Abs.
Poor card got a hammering again !
Did you get the Turbo fitted locally ?? as in Northamptonshire? Have you driven your wagon far yet to see if the turbo is now working properly again and that your mpg has not suffered.
Mine is ok at the moment, but you never know when turbo failure is going to strike.

Steve.
