Has anyone experimented with adjusting the turbo boost on the 320CDi at all?

Being a black box set-up there doesnt seem to be any obvious adjustment and I suspect a conventional turbo bleed valve would be too easy a mod to increase boost.

I have a Van Aarken 'smart box' as it is referred to fitted for the past couple of years and never felt that it made any difference although it does appear to be pumping more fuel (as evidenced by sooting of the rear valance)

I think the Van Aaken box alters boost as well , certainly felt a lot stronger when i fitted mine , i also did back to back 0-60 tests and it seemed to knock over a second off .

The maximum boost is controlled by the ECU as a result of the MAP sensor.

Boost across the range will have increased due to the increased fueling causing greater expansion of exhaust gas.

Before fiddling with boost pressures you really need to fit an EGT gauge and boost gauge, otherwise you could get into an overheat situation.

More likely the MAF is failing so the tuning box is only compensating for an under performing engine anyway, although badly as it causes overfueling before full boost is realised.

By manipulating the data going into the ecu via the map sensor the tuning box can trick the ecu to upping the boost its not automatically fuel dependant

Boost is, maximum boost isn't. The only exclusion to that could be a VVT but that will be set to give maximum available boost anyway.

Does the Van Aaken box alter MAP sensor values.?

Thanks for the responses Gents. Interesting.

The current Van Aaken offering includes a "boost Fooler" to increase turbo boost. Not a claim when I got mine in 2006. They also currently claim 25BHP increase whereas mine claimed a 42BHP increase - that kind of increase anyone should really notice.

Na, having travelled 50k + miles with it fitted and compared the perofrmance with other 190BHP rated cars its not doing anything.

I need to do a back to back test to be sure.

Where in Berks are you???

I'm in Newbury could take you out in mine

I appreciate the offer.

I'm in Wokingham

Maybe a back to back sprint test 0 -60 and 40 - 70 etc would be a useful comparison.

I'm often up and down the M4 to Wiltshire with work.

Let me do some trials with mine disconnected and then connected first to see if there is a difference and then I can report back. I might be wrong in my assessment of these tuning boxes (my cynical side)
