E350 - kangaroo’ing

On same engine had a similar issue and symptoms.

Transpired to be turbo boost pipe not being seated correctly by technician after a service. Error code indicated air mass issue.
Thanks, I’ll add this to my requests for the tech to check 👍

All this diagnostic time and effort , yet no mention of any live data readings for any one component. I do DIY home mechanics on my own vehicles and with a cheap OBD2 scanner, even I myself am capable of collecting live data . I'd start by changing your mechanic ,that won't cost you a penny, staying with him is gonna cost you alot .

So I just thought I’d update this thread with the outcome for those who may experience same problems in future.

Ended up going back to main dealers. They confirmed the EML was saying it was the air mass flow sensor, however they confirmed this was performing correctly, they also checked all the emissions, ecu, egr etc and everything was as it should be. They confirmed everything was pointing towards the Air Intake Pipe, mass air flow sensor = ££££. The Indy garage previously told me it would be £1300-£1400 to fit and it would be tough luck if the light came on a few days later!
The main dealer replaced the part, changed the front roll bar and fitted a new wing mirror light unit, including all new wiring, total cost £1600.
So lessons to learn - the Indy garage did correctly diagnose the issue, you can get this part for a few hundred quid, but they are not genuine parts, it worked out much cheaper for the main dealers to carry out the work and they agreed to remove the part if the problem wasn’t rectified and refund us.
Car has been running beautifully for a few weeks, fingers crossed it stays that way!

Can I ask which indy you used?
I’ll just say it was one in Liverpool, Im not wishing to slate any local business and I have used them before for my last service, they are good and the staff are great. I think ordering such an expensive part, which they obviously don’t have in stock, for an Indy is a lot more difficult to return to MB than a main dealer, I also think main dealers get the parts a lot cheaper maybe? Who knows, that’s just my opinion 👍
