Hi
I’ve just ordered an E53 coupe and I’ve fully loaded it, but I’ve been left with a question about the Driving Assistance Package.
In the brochure there is no mention of Active Steering Assist (steering pilot) whereas the brochure for the E Class saloon does list it as a feature. I’ve had a look at the Mercedes sites around Europe and the E53 Coupes there all have Active Steering Assist listed.
The sales exec has looked into it and told me that if it’s not in the brochure, it means I won’t be getting it.
But, in the brochure there is also no mention of Active Lane Change Assist, but then on the sales order it IS listed.
So I’m not confident the brochure reflects exactly what the Driving Assistance Package coonsists of.

Does anyone have any knowledge of this? Will the car come with Steering Pilot or have they really removed this feature in the UK only and on the coupe only? I’m baffled why they might do this.

Saying that, I noticed Remote Parking Pilot has been stripped out of the list of options in the UK but is still available elsewhere and on the E Class saloon.

Thanks in advance.

Is it just confusing nomenclature across different regions and years?

I've got an E450 Coupe on order, hadn't heard of steering pilot, but there is Evasive Steering Assist (along with active brake, lane keeping, distance and speed assist) within the Driving Assistance Package. Is that what you're thinking of?

Open the driving assistance bit here then further expand the little down arrow...

Looks like things are changing and becoming very confusing. I managed to get to the new UK configurator (it’s now got the hybrids on it) and Remote Parking Pilot is not available even on the saloon (my Mar 18 saloon has it). The massage seats are no longer available either - I managed to get them !
In terms of the Driving Assistance, Active Steering Assist on the E53 is included. On the E63 then selecting Active Steering seems to delete the performance seats. Check the new configurator at
Mercedes-Benz Car Configurator
Hope this help

I had Remote Parking specced on my order, until it was removed post submission into the system.

The configurator doesn't seem to be available, to me anyway, for the E Coupe on the MB UK site at the moment.

The Active Steering Assist is where the car is supposed to steer itself on the motorway. Semi autonomous driving. It’s different to evasive Steering and lane keeping...all the other models from A class to S class mention it separately in their brochures but nothing on the E Class Coupe brochure. Seems odd for it to be the only model across the range that misses out when the same model has it in the rest of Europe.

Thanks for info.
It’s so frustrating how they chop and change. When I originally looked at the coupe, you could get remote parking and by the time I came to order the E53 it had vanished. As had the Active Steering. It’s strange because the Driving Assistance Package seems to do all the same things that the Package does on the other models, but just the Steering Assist is missing. I can’t see the logic in removing it so I’m hoping it’s just an omission in the brochure but my sales guy is telling me if it’s not written in there, I’m not getting it. But as i said before, there’s also no mention of Active Lane Change Assist, but according to my sales order I AM getting it.

How did you get into the configurator for the saloon? I can follow your link but can’t change to configure the coupe.

Understood.

I started the E Coupe buying process in Feb of this year with an E400 order that was subsequently cancelled because of the emissions issues and subsequent change to the E450 model.

Must admit I was never expecting any semi autonomous driving as you describe in either the 400 or 450.

I’ve been watching a few videos on YouTube showing the autonomous stuff in action. It looked pretty good so I was looking forward to getting them. Trouble is the videos are from Holland where they seem to get a better spec than us.

E400 was the one I was looking at at the start of the year. I was this close to ordering but decided to hold off for a bit. I did wonder why it had disappeared. Must have been frustrating to have it cancelled!

It was mildly frustrating, mostly because it came with no warning weeks after the order was supposedly accepted.

First world problem though :-)

I think it is to do with type approval in the UK - many semi autonomous aids, such as lane change assist, are not permitted in the UK

I wondered about that but it’s available on all other Mercedes models in the UK, including the E Class saloon. It seems the UK E Class coupe/cabriolet is the only one to miss out. And I’m sure it used to have when I first started looking. It just seems like something they’ve inexplicably decided to strip out.

I have tried several ways to get to the coupe configurator but can’t. There is now a ‘configure’ icon for the cabriolet but it just takes you to the start page - perhaps they’re just building the site. I can’t see why they would disable the lane assist and steering assist just on the coupe & cabrolet. The configurator has it for the (very expensive) S coupe, the remote parking pilot is not available.
Good luck getting it sorted - I had a similar nightmare with my saloon. I ordered it in May 17 and got it Mar (it’s a E350e), after Xmas the dealer said the only way I could keep the massage seats was to also have the comfort heating (+£ 700). The brochure said this but the configurator didn’t. The latest brochure had the HUD but the configurator didn’t.

MB UK's website is such a mess at the moment you just can't tell what right or wrong.

Hi,

The DAP is the same across the E Class range, so you’ll definitely have the steering assist

there is nothing as mediocre as the mercedes benz website configurator . it can be shockingly vague and poor at times. on my humble c class with driver assistance package it has steering pilot and steers in the lane even on corners on motorways and A roads. best thing to do if your dealer is being unhelpful is call MBUK and formally ask them. you also have the option to tweak your order up to a certain point before they start building it . good luck and that option isn't worth the price without staring pilot

Good idea, thanks.. I’ll see if they can give me a definite answer. Seems crazy that no-one at the dealer seems to really know. They just say “what the brochure says (or doesn’t say in this case) goes.

I’ll be chuffed if that is the case. Might mean I get the remote parking too!

The configurator is back again now!

There is also a new brochure. It looks as though there are a few changes from 1 December. I have only had a quick look but it seems as though there are no different trim options now, just the black wood and the Driving Assistance Pack does look less than before. Also, I think you may be able to delete the red seatbelts.
