E55 AMG - Buying Guide?

Sup folks,
I was / am looking at CL55 AMG or CL600 V12 however due to a lack of options out there.. I'm thinking of perhaps exploring the idea of E55 AMG (2006/06 model).

I'd much prefer a coupe i.e. CL shape but since there aren't many out there with decent history.. I've also ready about ABC issues, corrosion etc etc.

Does the E55 AMG also come with ABC type suspension? What other things should I look out for when checking out E55 AMGs? Is there a facelift version of the earlier gen E55 i.e. 2005/6? What's a good / decent spec'd car come with and anything I should be aware of please?

I'm a BMW nut in an E92 335D.. so I can go on all day about BMWs but I want to try a merc.... can you say the E55 AMG is comparable to the M5 ?

Don't be too quick to write off the idea of a 54/05/55 reg Sam.

Yes, the W211 E55K has ABC suspension as well as the CL & SL.

What other things should I look out for when checking out E55 AMGs?

There was a revision around March 2004 of the W211 which can be spotted by a mesh grill on the dashboard instead of a slatted grill. Also a 200mph speedo was fitted then as well.I understand the wiring looms were fitted manually instead of robotically and there is less chance of electrical problems.
If you can get hold of the datacard info for the car, look for the code 805 or 806 which indicates it's a facelift. Sometimes non facelift cars still have the 200mph speedo and will have the 804 code on the datacard.

What's a good / decent spec'd car come with and anything I should be aware of please?

The spec is probably a personal thing as to what is a good addition, but I'd say look for one that has Keyless Go, Dynamic heated/cooled seats, panoramic or electric glass sliding roof, TV/DVD Comand, and Parktronic (sensors).
Lots of other additions that may or may not interest you such as Distronic, Linguatronic, electric self closing boot, electric rear blind. Up 2 you really what you are looking for.

Sam, for pure straight line speed, an E55 will leave an M5 in it's wake. BMW always thought of as a better drivers car, especially on the twisties, but you really need to experience that massive shove in the back from a supercharged AMG to make your mind up. It was no contest for me.
Check out some You tube videos to see the M5/M3 coming second best to an E55. They are very understated.

Yes, the W211 E55K has ABC suspension as well as the CL & SL.

211 and 219 have Airmatic DC which is air shock absorbers.

ABC is Active Body Control which is completely different.

2006 they only made a few , 2005 ones were the last mainstream year for these, do a search and ye shall find, been discussed many times!
