I have been doing lots of searches on this topic and there is a lot of info out there on it! Anyway, I've decided my pump must be on its way out because the car pulls like a train for a few hard pulls then all of a sudden when I go for another there's nothing there. If I leave it a while it's back to normal.
I've not looked at which Bosch pump is fitted but I've decided to just order the later 010 one which seems to be a direct replacement for the 030 but better. I was just wondering if the 010 has a higher flow rate meaning better cooling therefore giving more power?

Yeah you have the symptoms of a failing IC pump.
No idea on the flow rate of the 010 pump I'm afraid.

If you intend mapping it and going with a smaller s/c pulley you may want to uprate your heat exchanger too. Look for Fabtech products. i think MSL stock them along with the IC pumps.

Upgraded to bosch 010 on my sl55. Read stats on mbworld that similar flow rate to Johnson pump but advantage is it is direct replacement. Bought via ebay.com for £100 including shipping which was half price of MB dealer. Also fitted additional heat exchanger as overheating can be a big issue on these engines.

010 is generally a more reliable and better built pump, mines been in there 7 years now without issue

Well, got round to doing my IC pump today, not difficult but very fiddly. The one that's come off is the original 003 and I've fitted a 10. As I had the wiring sorted for bleeding it I thought I'd try the old pump just for curiosity. DEAD as a dodo. Not even a click! Is this normal considering the car went well and only dropped power very occasionally? Granted I've not pushed the car too hard for a prolonged period.
One thing that concerned me slightly is when I started bleeding it the water was coming through the pipe with plenty of air bubbles which eventually cleared. I then started the car and ran it for 5 minutes then tried bleeding it again to make sure but the water stopped coming through the pipe even though the pump was running! Hope the new pump isn't duff!

I've been for a fairly long arduous drive round town in this warm weather and on the way home got chance to get the heal to the steel. I an report so far so good. Thing is, these cars are too darn fast! You can't give them the beans anywhere! Just feels like you're tickling it all the time lol.

It's what mine did.

Things like a cooler day can help.

Car will reign itself in when it thinks things are getting too warm - which is what you experienced.

Just want to say thanks to John for the link he sent me for the 010 pump..!
£96 all in inc customs + shipping:thumb:

I paid more but I'm impatient and wanted it quickly. I went for a drive yesterday and the power seems more constant. When the pumps failed as mine seems to have been, is the amount of power loss variable depending on how hot it gets until it gets really hot and completely shuts the kompressor down? That's how it felt before.

Ive bought the pump as a just in case scenario! My car did multiple pulls on a red hot day 2 week ago on a Dyno and never lost power. But I just want to be sure that everything is fine before I have pulley, headers, remap and PCs cooling tank fitted.
Can't wait..!
Glad it all sorted out for you nomiS36

Yes - you will probably be down to around 360BHP without the blower so noticeable!

Before we changed mine, it sustained one WOT run and then was running at stock power again before too long.

Have you got it booked in Lee?

Hi Jules
I spoke with Acid last week and he told me to phone/book in when I'm back off holiday. Don't want to go now, just want the car done....haha

Could you talk me through your 12v set up and what you used to do this for pump bleeding ?
