In fact, £106.55 for a tankful of basic diesel.

Very taxing.

How far do you typically travel on a tank?

Hello Will,

Tbh I don't check -I just fill it to the top each time and run until close to empty, to cut down on the time spent in filling stations.

Mine has the long range tank I reckon well over £100 to fill, the other day it took £90 for three quarters.....

As mentioned though at 40mpg it's a lot from a tank :)

wowsers , im kidding myself by filling up when i get to half way these days so i don't see figures like that...

Bet there was still about a gallon left in the tank too!

The price of fuel is absolutely shocking! We have the cheapest diesel in Europe at around 51p a litre and the highest tax :(

On the plus side, it will never be as cheap today to own a V8, Subaru Impreza, Mazda RX-8

Filled mine up on red the other day = £100 @ £1.399 pl

Fortunately it has gone down to £1.379 today.

I also tend to fill up just after half as for some reason filling it up twice to say £60 feels better than putting £100 in one go.

The only good thing, ad I walk or ride to work that fuel can last 2 or 3 months :)

Gina's range rover used to be £105 to fill up when it was 106.9 for diesel god knows what it would be now. If you were lucky it might have got 350-400miles out of a tank as well.

I took this pic when it was £100 limit on fill ups was still more to go in the tank lol

Also interestingly diesel was only 1p different as against the 3p it seems to be now, and I can also remember when it was cheaper than petrol. What happened!

More people bought diesels, so the govt & fuel companies decided to increase their profits again.

Sure my dads new shape ML will take nearly £130 now (ML320 CDi) I wonder what a RR Supercharged is?

I filled up with 76 litres on Friday night for £108. Good job the tank wasn't empty, I can get 82 litres in at a push, that would be £116...and I had deliberately driven to a cheaper filling station than normal.

Half gone now...

As far back as 2005 the excuse was lack of capacity in refining diesel due to the surge in diesel consumption. Surely it doesn't take 6+ years to increase refining capacity?
Diesel should be cheaper to refine than petrol so I don't think competition and market forces quite work with oil :wallbash:

And why is the government increasing the tax on North Sea production?

As Onecareful owner says lots of people started buying diesels and so they became a useful target for the Government's tax policy.

Hang on, is this the same Government that used green grounds to force company car buyers out of petrols and into diesels?

Could these two points be in some way linked?

C230K one tank 62+4=66 litres 7.5mpl = 570 miles at 60mph
E300D one tank 72+4=76 litres 9.2mpl = 700 miles at 55mph
At normal motorway 70 mph speeds both return around 35mpg because the E300D is 4sp and the C230K 5sp.
London - Moscow 250 litres averaging 34mpg in C230K with aircon and 40psi tires.

S320 one tank roughly 82 litres gets me 560 miles at normal speed.

Took my Dad's new S600 to the pump over the weekend and it hit over £150, the best part was the shock the cashier had when she tapped it up on her screen.

New Iphone App recently called My Gas which locates all pumps locally. Found it very useful in areas I am unfamiliar with.
