[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica] been wondering where my unadulterated thrust and fuel economy went on my 320 TD, And this long lasting **** about its non existant dump valve the one that Ive been hearing every singal day and that was clearly part of garrete turbo and install by garette and then installed by Mercedes to a DIESEL.

Any way Ive been pressing on and recently decided to clean all the clag off, 5mm worth atleast .. encrusting the valve, and since it was niggling in my mind for the last few months.. and wanted to photograph it for the non believer at large .. any way I used some anti tar and insect stuff and kitchen towl to get all the crap off it ... then I i used some WD40 and spray into the top of the valve where the actuator comes from and press it down which was not happening at first but with some moderate force the leaver eventually made a funny ka-ching noise and it was able to be depress and you could hear air escape and spring/diaphragm squeaking (with car off).

any how since then the economy at thrust is 100% back and no random dumping every time its even 100rpm over 2k rpm it sizzles off a little vent

.

I'm not sure but I cant remove the valve with out removing the actuator in order to clean it up better.. I'm a bit paranoid to try it, I don't know if it will come out out of top the valve like a pin or something..
but I sprayed it from underneath throughly and let the kitchen towl absorb the ****..

Am i correct in believing there is load of little holes on the bottom of the valve that I might of also unblocked???

I never in 100000 years thought that would affect the car so madly but just the fairly unconnected act of cleaning it solved 3 problems

This also seems to make the trip computer accurate / sensitive

A few days passed and the valve is going black as hell again!

There is no dump valve on a diesel. Do you mean the EGR valve or the wastegate.?

Pictures for W210 320CDi.

Turbo.
Intake

Where is this valve.?

Wastegate then?.. it sure does sound good any way :)

the turbo pic:
hrm its hard to tell ...that sort of looks like it but the valve is on its own peace of bracket, with a leaver / actuator that comes off a little metal flicker on the turbo that its surcliped in place its like a plunger.

The valve is brass and goes back to a block of vacuum connections one goes off to a little thing that is like fish tank air filter with a peace of cork in side!

the picture does not show the vacuum line

If you mean the valve actually fitted to the turbo, it's the wastegate. How can you see it's getting cruddy, it's mounted inside the housing.?

There is no housing or covers there it is just bolted on below the turbo riding the winds
could my car be modified - omen music?

The vacuum diaphragm unit is external, the actual valve is internal. I don't see how the external part can be getting sooty or affecting performance or sound.

well that makes this a X file.. the part I'm talking about must be the diaphragm unit.. it is external and it is certainly getting grimyed up quickly.. I mean you can see it under the hood, its normally a bit camouflaged under its 5mm thick layer of crud but its visible and obviously as I said I gave it a fairly good clean.. hell it was tighter then bomb bay streets on a Monday morning but do able.
