Hi hopefully some one can help.i have a 2005 slk.recently broke down took it to garage and said the ecu was no good.he tryed to get it reconditioned but he said no one would do it because of the age ?.he then said he couldn't get a new one, cause of the age?.so he brought a second hand one.just had a call today car is running fine now, everything is good, apart from one thing.he cannot get the airbag light to go off.and I'm due a MOT in a couple of weeks.if anyone can give me I bit of advice I would be Great full.

ECUs from that era are coded to the original vehicle they left the factory on. Ideally, if doing an ECU swap you'd need the ECU, key, ignition barrel, steering lock & maybe another couple of bits.

See ebay - mercedes slk ecu set for sale | eBay

An MB independent specialist would be aware of the coding & associated issues.

Hi mate, thanks for reading.i have replaced the ecu, key, ignition barrel, and steering lock, but he still can't get the airbag light to go off with his diagnosis tool

Airbag systems are quite complex. In addition to the drivers steering wheel airbag and passenger airbag there may be other sensors and other airbag units to be taken into account. Things such as seat occupancy sensors and curtain/pillar/knee airbags. The car the ECU originated from may have had these additional units and the system in your car is now registering them as faulty/missing. As Neilrr has said the codes on Star may help

Thank you I will show this to the mechanic who has got my car and see what he says.once again thanks for your help it's become a bit of a nightmare
