Is it a good idea to stop the EGR Valves? Will the engine run better/ longer/smoother with no hot/used gaz coming in?
And how to block it?
Than you. Olivier

Ooooh now you are going to start a debate:D do a google for TDI,TD5 egr removal loads of info, i have blanked the egr on every diesel car i have ever had, but thats not to say its right, some people say combustion temp goes to high with blanked egr, others say opposite.

Blank plates for TDI,TD5 on e-bay.

TDI blank plates were also available from the main dealers as a quick/cheap egr fix ie bin it and fit the plate.

If you are going to blank it you can make a nice plate from 2mm steel that way you can always go back to std.

Some people say engine smoother or more mpg but i never noticed any difference.

On our vans at work we quite often block off the EGR but we only do it when they are causing a problem and they always run fine afterwards, easy enough to block off, yours maybe easier to block off at the manifold end then just disconnect the vaccuum pipe from the valve and block the pipe off with a small bolt screwed into the end of the hose, not sure if it has any detrimental effect on the running but i'm sure someone else more knowledgeable than myself will post.

Just got on ebay, they don't do mercedes at the moment.
What happen if I don't block the vaccum pipe?

Cool the jets guys,

It cannot be done (easily) on the turbodiesel 606, it will just go into limp home mode. Been there done that many many moons ago.

Woohoo!!! THis is spooky. Any reason why it'll go into limp mode?

The EGR valve is monitored by the MAF sensor. As the valve opens less fresh air is drawn past the MAF so there is a reduction of output voltage of about 0.4 volt.

You could cheat the ECU by either having a switched circuit that reduces MAF output when the EGR is operational or take a fresh air feed from elswwhere and blank off the exhaust EGR pipe.

Recirculated EGR doesn't always reduce efficiency.

so What is happening when there is no MAF sensor >? :)

i would definatly clean up the bits surrounding the EGR. I have mine plugged (its a W124 with NA 606 though).

when i took my manifold off to do some work on the fuel lines, I cleaned the manifold and the metal pipes surrounding the EGR. It was really clogged up with gung.

Get some degreaser on it.
