Hi All.
I'm an E250 CDi 10 plate newbie after a bit of advice before giving in and handing my cheque book to a dealer
The issue I have is that the key (either key, I have 2) will sometimes start the car and sometimes not. Sometimes it take 2 attempts and sometimes it wont start for several hours - it seems one key is better than the other however.
The symptom is that I can insert the key and turn it - nothing happens - or it does and everything is fine.
I've now read enough posts and info to understand that the problem is most likely something of the following:
The code exchange between the key and the EIS/ESL is not working, thus the steering lock is not disengaging and the power is not being established.
Key(s) Problem? (Coil?) - EIS Problem? - ESL Problem?
After a recovery, it also transpires that my battery is low voltage (11.6v?) and I have been reading that this can also damage the ESL in particular.
So... my current thinking is to initially change the battery before then perhaps calling experts in this type of thing, like the guys in Birmingham; replacementmercedeskeys.co.uk - rather than going to a dealer who is most likely just going to replace everything anyway.
My keys are the sealed type so checking the coil is probably out and I don't think this is the problem anyway.
Any other thoughts appreciated!
