Good afternoon everyone

I was left a little baffled this morning when I checked my

Electrics, Control Unit, Automatic Transmission Control Unit for MERCEDES-BENZ and to my horror I found a oil like fluid coming out of this box , I disconnected the two terminals and wiped off the oil but for some strange reasons it’s still leaking an oil substances from what looks like in side the main unit .

I just can’t understand how this is possible
Any advice or suggestions would greatly be appreciated
Regards
Mark

Why the change in font?🤔

I t may help with answers if you told us the model and year of the vehicle?

On some transmissions (5 speed) transmission fluid could leak out of the electrical connector and wick along the wiring into the Transmission control module.

One picture can be 20Mb or more on modem smartphones

Either resize it or choose a lower resolution.

Either way my description of the fault sounds like the likely cause.

The electrical plug (also known as a Pilot bush) are common failures. New ones are under £30,

You may be able to clean out the fluid from the harness and control box or they may need replacing. Don't forget to get the transmission fluid level checked and topped up.

When was the fluid last changed?

You need to get the oil out of the unit and clean it throughly with contact cleaner.

Was the transmission still working?

The transmission is amazingly still working at present !
So just to clarify the transmission oil has come down the wiring and steeped into the unit

Yes.

If you check the gearbox (I think it's the passenger side) you will see an electrical plug that connects into the gearbox and carries the electrical signals from the TCU to the conductor plate and solenoids.

This will be leaking and needs to be replaced and the fluid levels checked.

It had a full service about 2 years ago only done about 400-500 miles in the car in the last 2 years
So about 2 years ago

Appreciate your input so where would I be able to buy this plug from ? and is it easy to fit or would I need to take it to a garage

I just posted an image of one for sale from eBay.

Your local MB parts Dept should have one in stock or can order one.

They are fairly easy to fit but far easier on a lift. Plus you need to have the fluid level checked. Have you got an MB specialist near by?

At the last service was the fluid and filter changed or was it just an engine service ?

If this wasn't a transmission service it might be an opportunity to get this done and an MB specialist could do all of this.

If the transmission was serviced then it just needs the level checked and topped up. 👍

The last specialist garage I took it too in Shropshire I wasn’t happy with at all they said a full service didn’t really specify if it was transmission levels checked !

I see if there’s any other MB specialist In my area of Telford many thanks for your advice appreciate it

Sorry I can’t see the image from eBay that you posted
Image is in post 12.

A "full service" does not normally include the transmission unless you specify it.

MB claimed the transmission was sealed for life, then changed the fluid replacement intervals to differing mileages over the years so unless you have invoices stating transmission fluid and filter changed it is safe to assume it has not been changed.

Why have you posted the same question in another thread?
