Mercedes A class 180 2013
Hi I'm new here, had my mercedes A class 2 yrs now 2013, 96,000 miles. It started showing signs of an electrical fault, which consist of most instruments going off, couldnt shut windows, wipers didnt work, if i turned the car off in this mode it wouldnt start again. So took it to Mercedes Blackpool. Had a ignition switch put in at a cost of £900 all together, fuses changed, EMC, steering block put in none of this worked. All of the above were taken out except the ignition. Eventually they changed a relay and have now said if this doesn't work don't bring the car back as we can't fix it. Not sure what I an do now if this fails, surely they'd have to be accountable if they fix there own cars. Any info would be appreciated as I'm at a loss if this fails. Many thanks

I would think that MB Blackpool would have done a Star diagnostic ? Did they show you the results and fault codes ? You may get a better outcome by going to a good indi Merc specialist, Star is a very complex system but needs to be used by the right person.

Hi, yes, they did a diagnostic as to why they tried all of the above. When the car was there, it went into the mode, which doesn't allow me to start it, so they put it on the diagnostic again and.sent it off to the tech team in Spain, so was waiting for most of the time for them to get back to them as to what they could try. There wasn't any fault codes coming up so that's why they didn't know what to do. Only the ignition they said as to why they changed it, but it was still doing it , but as i already paid £900 for this they weren't for giving me it back. Apparently the guy working on it has been there 15yrs. Apart from taking the car to bits which is a long and costly job they said they can't fix it. Bit of a joke really not being able to fix there own cars. Just fobbed off

Shoddy dealer action when car is in for fault finding.
Throw parts at it at the customers expense, then when that doesn't work give it back and say they can't fix it!:wallbash:
Repairs are guaranteed for 12 months so if the same fault re occurs it should be fixed for free.

I'd find a decent Mercedes specialist with Star and let them diagnose the fault.

This.

I would of thought Blackpool would of had star its a big showroom and nearest to me
It will. But the main dealers are the last place I'd take the car.
up to £200 per hr labour and the techs just replace parts according to what Star tells them. It sounds like they were guessing anyway.
A Mercedes specialist will take the time to diagnose and fix the problem. It's in his interests to have a satisfied customer.
Main dealers couldn't care less. Plenty more owners will come through the doors keeping the business going.

Thanks for the replys, but anybody suggest what I should do now. I have had it in to varies garages before I took it to Mercedes which was my last resort.
