This week you may (or not) recall I posted with regards to putting petrol in to my E300TD.

The car runs fine. except after a run it wont start for about 1.1/2 hours. Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved.

How ever. Friday morning I had to attend a funeral at the crematorium The car started fine when I set off, but because of the starting problems, while guests were still mingling after the service I decided to try and start the car so I could go back for my ham sandwich and cup of tea.

It started ok, I joined the end of the line of cars, but because people were still chatting I foolishly turned the car off and waited untill everybody was ready to drive off.

Sods law, the car wouldnt start, everybody drove off and I was the last in the line so nobody noticed. I sat about 5mins when I noticed headlights in my rear mirror. It was the next funeral and I was in the unloading section. I embarisingly had to go ask for a push from the pall bearers, and because it was a one way system I had to pushed about a 100 yards with a bit of extra pushing power from a couple of the mourners as well. So thats it. got a taxi for my ham sandwich and came back 2hours later. car started just fine.

Ahahahahahahhahahhahahahahha !!!! :D

I've got no idea what the problem might be, but it's a great story !!!

Really brightened up my day !! Hope you get it sorted ....

Hi Stuart,

Doesn't petrol dissolve/corrode fuel pump components? As diesel is more oily (than petrol) it also lubricates fuel pump system.

Thus the problem may be related to a 'knackered' fuel pump. I'm sure Dieselman could comment more comprehensively.

My £250 quids worth

Cheers,

Possible but I really doubt it. It could be that the lift pump on the side of the pump body has gone for a burton but again I doubt it.

Can you see any air bubbles in the fuel lines when cranking.

Maybe the petrol in the fuel is evaporating causing vapour locks in the pump so doesn't crack the injectors open.

Can you squeeze any more diesel in yet?

Yes, I think I have put about another 15litres in and room for about another 10ish after the weekend..

oer c220 did exactly this after i made the same mistake. It would eventually start, but usually you had to try to start, then leave for 5 minutes then try again... It will continue to do this for a while, we just kept filling it up and eventually it stopped doing it...
