Hi all,

Ive just been offered the following wheels for my C230 Kompressor (S reg, 1998, Sport, Manual):

4 x Genuine Staggered AMG 18" Alloys

Sizes:

265/35 ZR 18 - 9J 18 H2
235/40 ZR 18 - 8J 18 H2

Can someone please tell me asap if these will fit.

The owner says that he had them on an E55 AMG and that the back two tyres are in good condition but the fronts will need changing (it is my assumption that the front tyres will cost less to replace than the back, therefore for the price im being offered they are a bargain...provided they will fit my car.

If there is anyone out there that can help that would be great.

Ive looked at the chart on Alloy Wheels Direct but cant make head to toe of what is what as ive never had staggered wheels before and dont want to end up with alloys that are to wide?

Thank you

Best Regards

Khalid

Ive just been googling around.... im not sure but maybe the tyres are not going to fit, but I assume the wheels themselves would be ok with the correct tyre sizes on, or am i wrong and should I scrap the deal before I get stuck? HELP!!!

Are they mint condition ?

Factor around £300 to refurb if not.

Its an Emergency because I have to wire the money first thing in the morning if I want them or they will be sold to another person at lunch time and also if I end up spending the money on wheels that dont fit chances are the misses will have me leave the house in a green van with flashing blue lights tommorow!

The wheels are perfect bar one which will need refurbing at some stage but as they are id slap them straight on (PROVIDED THEY FIT)...

Im still looking on the net for any information, if there is anyone out there that knows the answer to my dilema, please do let me know.

Best Regards

Khalid

Emergency Over...

Found some old threads on here...apparently Will had the same wheels on his C230K, alloys should be fine but will need to change the tyres.

Panic over, bank first thing, anyone who tried to help thank you.

Best Regards

Khalid

I may be interested in the rear tyres if u change them and they have lots of tread..They are the same as on my CLK55(I Think)

W202 and W208 CLK share the same tyre sizes/fitment, so if you have those tyres on the CLK, they're not the correct fitment (rolling radius is too large).

For the OP - the wheels are okay, but as you've noted, the tyres are wrong. They're W210 sizes - fitted to E55 AMG models as you mention in your post. A bit too large for a W202, and would probably rub as well as throwing the gearing/speedo out slightly.

ok..Will need to check that in the morning then..If the snow stops before my car is covered lol. So what size should the tyres be in 18 inch wheels?

If you're running 18s on your CLK, it should be 225/40 front, 255/35 rears if you're going for the staggered setup above.

Not a major problem if they're part worn 265/35s, but worth bearing in mind for when you replace them.

Hi people,

Ive just tracked my wheels and fingers crossed if the weather is not too bad they will be delivered tommorow and will be on the car by Friday, I got all the details today and the part numbers are as follows:

Front Wheels -18x8 ET31
Part No - A1294001902

Rear Wheels - 18x9 ET35
Part No - A2194000202

The condition of the tyres are as such:

Front ...ilegal bold and useless
Back ... good tread

I will not be needing the back to tyres so if they are of any use to anyone, make me a an offer and they are yours. The back tyres are Goodyear.

I am now looking for the following tyres...if anyone knows where is best (and cheapest) to buy please let me know.

front: 225/40R18 92Y
rear: 255/35R18 94Y

Fingers crossed once these are on the wheels they will be perfect for my car!

I put the same size staggered wheels on my W202, like yours they originally came from an E-class.

To my mind the difference in tyre sizes is minimal, what I learn't is as follows:

235 front on mine didn't work because I had a non-genuine wing which was 5mm narrower. Had I had a genuine wing they'd have probably been ok.
265 seemed ok on the back

I sold the 235's at the time thinking they were the problem, then I noticed the wing when the 225 rubbed.
The 265s were shot so got some 255's.

If I were you I'd change the fronts for 225's and at least try the 265's before changing them, you could save yourself a few hundred quid.

Whatever you do though, the wider tyres on the back of a c-class makes it even more rubbish in the snow. Wait for it to clear before you fit them!!

I haven't used my car for a week because its rubbish in snow and because its rubbish I'm more likely to slide into a kerb.....
