Engine Cover Star R171 SLK55

The engine cover star on my 2005 SLK55 has jumped ship and disappeared. Can anyone tell me whether a replacement is available, or do I have to either buy a new engine cover, or bodge it (not the same as botch, by the way...) with an A218 817 00 16 and a little fiddling about and preparation?

The VIN is WDB171 4372F 099 426.

None there, nor I think will there be. If it was a generic item used on lots of models, or there was a good market for a replacement, there'd be Chinese clones out there, but it isn't, and there isn't, so there aren't.

Unless somebody knows different, of course...

Had the same problem with the cover on my CLS 55 (badge not available separately), in the cover it left was almost exactly the same size hole as a MB Centre cap, bought a cheap set from Ebay and with a bit of fettling fitted a treat.

That's a nice job, but unless I can find a chrome star that is about 85mm in diameter, I can't simply do it that way. Mercedes may make such a star, but I don't know what for.
