Hi All,

I have an ML350 2006 model and it recently was in at MB to get a new valve body and conductor plate fitted as it kept going into limp home mode (ouch ££££££)

I have had the car back for a week now and although not going into limp mode anymore the MIL illuminated yesterday. I plugged in my reader and the codes are:-

P0410 secondary air injection system
P0810 (0810) secondary air injection malfunction right bank
P0814 (0814) secondary air injection malfunction left bank
P0730 incorrect gear ratio
P1789 (1789) fault in control module transmission

Does anyone know if these codes are related...in the transmission and the secondary air system..

Thanks
Trevor

The secondary air injection system is aimed at reducing emissions and improving efficiency on the burn process, and it mostly operates when the engine is cold. I would not go as far as saying that your car does not need it, but if it malfunctions there would not be a noticeable difference once the engine is up to operating temperature. It is usually the pump that fails and need replacing. A failing pump might manifest itself by clicking noises from the engine bay when the engine is cold.

Can't help with the other fault codes, but on a general note, fault codes should be noted, then erased, and then rechecked after a short drive to see if they come back. Some may be 'stored' as opposed to 'present' - i.e. suggesting that the condition that caused the original fault code was temporary and is no longer present. Usually you should only worry about the persistent ones.

The codes are not enough. Some testing with a Star is required.

Thanks for the replies Mark and Olly.

The secondary air codes are indeed stored ones so that leaves the transmission ones after work being carried out on that. Maybe the gearbox oil level is slightly low. I will contact mercedes and have them take a look.

Thanks for your help

Trevor

A low fluid level will not cause an engine light.
