I just finished washing the car, drove down to the shops to grab some food, whent to start the engine and it didn’t want to start for about 5 seconds. tred again and it started first time but the engine management light has come on! :wallbash:

I have checked the manual and the possibilities are.

. In the fuel injection system,

. in the exhaust system,

. or in the ignition system

The car has recently had new plugs all round. The car also drives fine with no issues and no malfunction on the display.
Could it be that I got a bit too excited with the hose and managed to get something on the engine wet?

Any thoughts before I take it to get looked at?

I was thinking water. But doubt it unless you had the bonnet open at the time?

Maybe a drop of water caused the delayed start and the build up of unburnt fuel during the cranking caused a lambda sensor to trigger the light?..........if so, i would expect all is well now?

Right you are, the light has gone out, phew. Let's hope nothing else happens. I think I'll be taking a bit more care when washing the car.

Thanks for your reply's

Oh dear,

car didnt want to start again, i put the key in the ignition and the engine turned over but would not start it took about 10 minuites to get the car to start, and the engine management light was back on.

There is no problem with the performance it just appears to be isolated to the start up.

I have had the plugs changed recently could it be related, i know very little about mechanics so you guys in the know please help. :wallbash:

Pretty sure CPS fault won't bring EML on,probably wet coil pack arced out.

do you think it would still be wet after two days?

No,but if it was wet this would have triggered the EML,could try disconnecting the battery for 10mins to see if it resets.
