Hi,

There are probably numerous threads or questions on this topic and i am glad to add to it as this is my 1st post on this forum.

I have a 2003 C200 Kompressor (1.8 version) and 2 days ago i took my 12 yrs old son to his football training and waited in the car part for him to finish. Engine turned off at this point. After a while as the nights at getting cooler and cooler the inside of the car started chilling up so i turned the engine back on and put the heaters to full blast for while and then turned then a little after the interior had warmed up. i let engine run for a while approx 30mins and then just as i was about to turn the engine off my "Engine management light" came on and has been on ever since. the car drives fine with no problems. This has scared me quite a bit as this is my 1st time experiencing this light and having read and heard of horrible stories about this light, it does not give me a good feeling at all at the moment.

Can someone please advise me what it might be before approaching dealers/mechanics.

Welcome.

You will have to get the fault code read, the warning light itself is non specific so there is really no point in guessing. The warning light just means that a sensor or other engine parameter is outside tolerance and needs to be investigated.

Preferably find a MB specialist with the Star computer for a proper diagnostic scan although most garages will be able to scan for and interpret basic fault codes.

Report the findings back here when you have a little more information and I am sure you will get appropriate advice.

These guys have a brilliant reputation and are forum sponsors: http://mslperformance.co.uk/

Hi and welcome. It could be anything. The best thing to do is get the C-Class checked by a STAR diagnostic machine at any MB dealership or MB specialist/independent. The STAR will show if any faults have been logged or if any faults have been stored. A STAR check at a MB specialist/indy will be significantly cheaper than MB dealer.

Once you get your STAR check result, you can then act accordingly.

Thanks for the feedback. i was advised forums will be the best place to get advise from and and lo and behold here it is. i will do just as both of you have said and will surly feedback what the finding are on here. Thanks again.

If the car is driving fine, try not to fret too much. When mine came on, it was exhaust temperature and DPF sensors, neither of which affected the vehicle's running. But as has been said, have the codes read very soon if only for peace of mind.
