Engine temp

I have been driving my dads 2001 E320cdi today and after a 30 mile run the temp gauge only reached what is showing in pic and on motorway it was actually lower than this. Should he get it checked or is this normal? Thanks

Get it changed asap. You'll notice a nice improvement in mpg!

+1, the improvement in mpg could be as much as 10%. Thermostat should be stamped for 92 degrees C I believe. You will soon recoup the cost.

Had mine replaced just today as it happnens, temp would not budge above 60 unless I was in traffic and now sits at a nice a steady 85 - 90 (sure as the others have said it will be 88).

Part was only £47.00 (for a w211 e320) so not massively expensive depending on where you get the work done/do it yourself.
