Hi,

I have a B180 SE and the auto lights keep doing odd things. On bright sunny days, they often come on, particularly when going down tree lined roads. If I am driving with the sun behind me they come on. Then on a dull day they don't come on at all. The local MB dealer has changed the sensor twice, but to no avail. The dealer says that it is setup correctly, but it seems very strange to me. The dealer also said, they had never heard of this problem! However, I have received some interesting comments from another forum and would be interested to hear if anyone here has had similar problems.

Anyone got any ideas.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Ask the dealer to turn down the sensitivity, its done throught the OCP, overhead control pannel. yours should be the newer version and can be done in a matter of minutes. no need to change any parts, seems as if its working correctly.

Thanks Merc Man. The reason given by the dealer for changing the sensor was that there was nothing to adjust. They said the replacement must have had some dust on it when fitted. At first they said they couldn't adjust it as the software on their kit was an older version than that on my car, so they would have to get an update. Sounds like they don't know what they are doing! On a recent dull day, they did not come on at all.

Cheers

was it done at a merc dealer? as if you replace the sensor, it would have to be re-adapted to the shade of the windscreen, which is the 4 digit number at the bottom of the screen somewhere, it sounds like it has not been re-adapted correctly, such happens when a screen is replaced by non-merc fitters. i know that the hella ones can be adjusted and mercs started to use hella after 2003. its a case of turnung the sensitivity bar down.

I think its time for them to invest in some new equipment and some basic training, the amout of money we pay for their services we expect some level of knowledge.
