Following on from the evening with the Police , I wonder if there would be any interest in an evening with the Fire Brigade ? This is only tentative at the moment , and will depend on a favourable reply from the Area Commander , whom I have already emailed .
My pal James has an accident damaged W124 estate he is currently breaking for spares -I've checked with him , and once he has removed the parts he wants from it , he'll let us have it for an extrication demo .
I'm pretty sure I could swing it so that we could get someone cut out of 'our own' car as a demo of what happens at a real crash - one of us could probably even get to be the victim ! Since this would be a training exercise for one of the fire crews , and we'd be providing the car , I can't forsee any difficulty arranging this . I think the most likely venue would be Kilwinning Fire Station as they have just opened a new RTC training area , and that's close to where the car currently is .
If anyone wants any W124 parts off the car before it is cut up ( it is/was a E200 estate which was 'T Boned' by a Clio which came through a red light at a crossroads ) , then let me know before the car gets cut up . As far as I know it was a good running/good condition car prior to the accident which only happened a couple of weeks ago . It would still need to 'look' more or less complete for the purposes of the exercise , but the removal of smaller parts would make no difference .
This would need to be arranged for the not-too-distant-future as the car is lying in a mate's garden at the moment , and while he's not too bothered , it can't be kept indefinitely . Again , probably sometime within the next couple of months would be the likely timescale .........
In time honoured fashion , if interested , please put your name on the list -
