C63 AMG estate
I've been given a price of £800 to re new my extended warranty on my 30,000 mile '58' plate C63 AMG estate with Warranty Direct, it's the Prestige & Performance LuxuryCare version, I know it's a risk but are these warranties really worth it, what do other members think?

There ok for what they are you pay for what you get, personally on a car like that id renew the dealers warranty.

At over £2900 for the same cover, I don't think so

That's ridiculous :eek:

I can't believe it is that expensive.
I have always renewed my Mercedes tier 1 warranty and it's £1200 (although I'm not saying I'm happy about paying that much!)

My car is a 2007 and has less than 17k miles.

It wont be for the same cover.

It's Tier 1 and the only difference is, with Warranty Direct I pay the first £50 on any claim, with the Merc.one which is actually covered by Mondial it's nothing, if I go to paying the first £100 it reduces to something like £2700.

Tier 2 which just covers Engine, drivetrain, suspension etc. that's just over £2500.

I think you can guess where my money will be spent, or should I take the risk and keep the dosh?

Try warranty wise, i found them better than warranty direct....no excess.

My view is thus:

  • Warranty companies make a profit from their business, if they're doing it properly;
  • Thus, on average, the customer pays more than the average cost of repairs per vehicle (normalized for the type of vehicle);
  • I drive and maintain my car with more care than average and would thus expect to experience a below-average rate of failure, although my warranty charge would not allow for this;
  • I don't drive a crazy hyper-tuned performance vehicle with hideously-overpriced parts costs.
I therefore choose not to pay for a warranty. If something breaks, I'll grin and bear it as I pay up. In my mind, that beats subsidizing others' breakdowns.

When my engine, gearbox and ECU go pop in the same week, I might change my mind... :p

Mercedes pretty well tripled the price of warranties for AMG cars a while ago.

Thanks, just had a quote from them £830, for 13 months cover and as you say, no excess.

About to go with them, just checked my renewal date, 21st. October, thought it was the 21st.September, bugger must be getting old, going to leave it for now.

While I was looking for a used C63, I called mercedes warranties to find out how much a warranty would be. I was told that if the car (a 2008) didnt have an existing mercedes warranty it would be about what you were quoted, (I cant remember the exact number but was somewhere like £2800) however if I was renewing an existing warranty that was running out, it would be about £1100. So it seems the price they've given you is a new warranty price as opposed to an extension?

Have you had work done on it under warranty previously? if so perhaps they have access to that info and are loading the rate accordingly

You're spot on, the car is coming up to 4 years old,the first 3 obviously covered by Mercedes, i did have some warranty work done including replacing the worn seat side bolster on the drivers side, when I enquired to extend the warranty they quoted something like £1250 if I can remember correctly, I enquired at Warranty Direct, they quoted £875 so I went with them.

It looks like they are more than doubling the cost to me for not using them.

Yes,

£1160.14

With a £200 excess, if I remember correctly.

:)

Fair enough. That's odd though, as several people reported they were being quoted around the 3 grand mark. Someone sought an explanation from MB and they said that in the past they'd renewed all versions of the same model range at the same price, but had changed that stance.
