For the 2005 model year you can now select from a number of cradles for various mobile phones to go with the factory fit pre wire. Anyone know how easy it will be to retro fit these to existing cars so that choice of mobile handset is not restricted to the Nokia 6310i (and earlier)?

Phone Cradle Upgrade.

Dont know about new models but this may intrest you.
When I purchased my 2000 ML, it had a full nokia handsfree kit fitted for a 6310i, this was the reason I have kept my 6310i for so long.
But times move on and I wanted to upgrade my phone to a 6230, but didnt fancy replacing the full kit, so I was very pleased to find a cradle upgrade. It was easy to replace, took about 10 mins to install.
It was not a nokia item, but well made and operates fine and for £65 delivered, I am very pleased
The cradle can be found at www.plummer.co.uk and is called the Evo Converter

I assume when you say the 'full nokia handsfree kit' that you mean the Nokia kit (CARK-91) and not the Mercedes factory fit phone kit. As Nokia are to discontinue production of the 6310i this Evo kit is extremely interesting. However, (I don't mean to be pedantic) a lot of people on this forum have the Mercedes factory fit Nokia kit for the Nokia 5110/6150, 6210 or 6310.

All of these phones fit the Nokia CARK-91 however in a Mercedes factory fitted kit to allow you to chang phones means changing the PSE module (not sure what PSE stands for) and sometimes the cradle.

I have recently upgraded the PSE module for mine from the 6150 to the 6310i. This allows you to use the 6310i as well as the older phones listed above. I can't see how this EVO unit can interface with the Mercedes Nokia kit as the wiring is completely different.

Intersting information for everyone else, but sadly not for users with the factory Mercedes Nokia kit. By the way, if it helps when I was at Braybrooks recently Neil (Braybrook) had said that he was working on an upgrade to deal with the Nokia 6310 issue for people but that it may take some time.

Which would also suggest that it'll be expensive. I'm not desperate to change from my 6310i but it would be nice to have the option of some newer handsets.

Yes sorry I did mean the CARK-91.
