Ferrari in White

Miami Vice...

I believe the Ferrari used in Miami Vice was originally a black car. Ferrari themselves thought that it did not stand out enough when watched on TV, especially during any night or low light scenes and offered the TV company a white car to use instead. This had to be sprayed white especially as it was not an option from Ferrari at that time.

(that kinda sums up the reasoning for the glut of white cars at motor shows or in glossy magazine/tv adverts, everyone is using them. Try counting them on the road or public car parks etc, very few & far between)

That TR in the MV piccy is an '84.

L.A. (& I'm sure Miami) was full of white Ferraris in the '80's

I love white on sport car.... it looks soooooo sexy to me. I would take any sport beast in white.

Two automobiles drew a lot of attention in Miami Vice, the Ferrari Daytona and Testarossa. During the first two seasons and two episodes of the third season, Detective Sonny Crockett drove a black 1972 Ferrari Daytona Spyder 365 GTS/4.[36] Actually, the car was not a Ferrari, but a kit replica based on a 1980 Chevrolet Corvette C3 chassis.[37] The car was fitted with Ferrari-shaped body panels by specialty car manufacturer McBurnie.[38] Once the car gained notoriety,[37] Enzo Ferrari filed a lawsuit demanding that McBurnie and others cease producing and selling Ferrari replicas, because they were taking his name and styling.[37] As a result, the vehicle lasted until season 3, at which point it was blown to pieces in the season three premiere episode, "When Irish Eyes Are Crying".[36][38] The fake Ferraris were removed from the show, with Ferrari donating two brand new 1986 Testarossas as replacements.[39] When Ferrari saw the black 'Daytona', he was convinced that it did not stand out in the night-time scenes very well; thus, the new Miami Vice car was produced in white. Ferrari continued this color in production for the Testarossa only.

As in other places that have very hot climates & very bright light, white cars were & are common in S. California. Being acclimatised to seeing everything available in white is perhaps the reason I have never disliked white cars like so many on this forum seem to.

I have been in a white 308 GTSi, a white 308 GT4, a white 246 GTS, a white Mondial, as well as a white Silhouette, a white Countach, a white 911, a white 914 & a white 930, white Bentleys, Rollers, Mercedes, BMWs & Jags, amongst other interesting cars.

Seems to me an unlikely that the Ferraris would all have been repainted.
