Do any of you helpful lot know of any ways of searching for a new (used) car other than Autotrader or ebay?

I have heard of companies that will do the searches for you and find exactly what you want, cheaper than you could find it yourself, sort of like a broker I guess?

Any ideas?

Mercedes in particular?

If so try www.**********.co.uk

Chaps name is Richard and he's very helpful/knowledgeable.

Hi Jimmy,
The first 2 sites you do the searching Jam Jar and Virgin

The second 2 are brokers, tell them what you want and they'll try to find it. BSA and Cars found

Although I'm at a loss as to what will be good enough to replace the Mercedes you just sold.

Thanks guys, those are some good sites although Jam Jar and Virgin dont list any Audi A4/6's.

Unfortunately I had become totally disgusted with MB, the quality, the dealers, the depreciation etc so much so that I just wanted to get rid of it before it lost/cost me even more.

So far the only thing that comes close to the feel of the MB is an Audi and I am hoping the quality is better.

A used BMW E39 530d Touring is just about the perfect car.No rust and 5 stars from just about every buying cars guide going.

BMWs have their issues too, whatever the buying guides say ..... Believe it or not, there is a forum not too different to this one with plenty of disgruntled owners !! However , they certainly don't seem to rust as badly, if at all, and the dealer service is in general a much better experience than MB, with a few rogue ones, as usual.

I'm sure the same can be said for Audi though !

Having said all that, have had no major problems with mine. Just make sure that whatever you get has as much warranty as possible thrown into the deal, would be my only advice !

Try Audi Diesels - they tend to be highish milage, though.

I have spoken to them a couple of times, very nice and helpfull but like you say, most of their cars are 100K+, I would like to stay under 50K miles really.

The reason I have my eye on an Audi is because we already have a Golf and I think that is great, so I would like to stick with VAG, obviously a Passat would be logical but for some reason it does not attract me (I must be a snob!!)

No other car manufacturer does it for me, not Ford, Vauxhall, Mazda although we have just bought a Renault Scenic for work, I dont like admitting it but that is nice, no really it is! A Jaguar estate maybe but I already said I dont want a Ford

I have had BMW's in the past, nice but not too keen on getting another, but I may look at a 530d Touring. I did look at getting a 320d Touring before the C250 but I could not get comfortable, not enough legroom.

So I am pretty much set on an A6 Avant just need to decide on diesel or petrol, the 1.9TDi's are a little underpowered the 2.5Tdi's are thirsty so a 2.7Bi-turbo or 3.0 sound like a good compromise.

I read through Graham's past thread when he was thinking of changing his car, it was so similar to my situation but this time I have sold mine so have no option to keep it.

Which models/engines/year?

Audi A6 Avant, 2.5TDi or 2.7T or 3.0/2.8 petrols, 2000/2001 or newer, must have leather, Quattro would be nice.

Would possibly consider an A4 Avant, but to me the A6 seem much better value.

From British Car Auctions...

AUDI A6 AVANT 2.5 TDI 155 SE Estate, BLUE, 5 Doors, Manual Transmission, Diesel, 73697 Miles, Margin.

hi mate, seeing as you all ready have a golf, you must have contacts in the vw, trade, and breakers yards, they are good people to ask where to get a nice audi from, such as sanburns in Coventry, i know the owner has a vr6 in a passat, and a s6 audi.

So your in northampton, have you tried the dealer oppsite matalan? Or try pvs, the body shop, they usually know where to pick up nice VAG group cars from.

hope this helps.

What a spooky coincidence. I have just had an invite to have a new A6 Avante demonstrator. Unfortunately I do not like the front of it, but the models you are looking at have much nicer looks.

Good luck with the new car.

Hunting down a new car is almost as fun as the day you get it isn't it? Don't get a broker to do it, you will loose out on that part!

Have you looked at Fontain Audi, they're Audi specialists in Iver (bucks), near Slough. Their website of current A6 Avants:

A few months ago my Dad bought a 2001 (Y) A6 Avant 1.8T Sport as his daily runaround to keep the miles if his W220 and he loves it to bits, decent turn of speed too from the 1.8T economy seems okay too. I love the look of these Avants, very classy.

Just checked the Fontain link, this one looks great a 2.7 with Leather, Xenons, Parking Sensors and Bose (same colour as my Dad's - Atlas Grey):

Yes, that 2.7 is just what I would like, way over my budget though.
