First Merc - CLS or C Class or E Class

Absolutely love my CLS but they are both longer and wider than the e class on which they are based. No bother when driving but they really do fill most parking spaces which can leave you circling car parks looking for an end space etc depending on how fussy you are about idiots bashing their doors etc into your pride and joy.

In the nicest possible sense, clouds having silver linings etc, I am so grateful my eldest has a blue badge!

Don't find the size a problem, it's the crap visibility. You sit low so the front of the car is just out there somewhere and rear visibility is a complete joke. However, Parktronic is amazingly accurate and not just a useless beep fest like a lot of others.

For me the E was the perfect car. Large saloon, big boot, super comfy drive, fast in E350cdi form, takes 3 kids with no issues.

However, I loved and still like the original W212 shape. Bought in 2010. Still driving it. Still enjoying driving it. Still love the shape.

You have to love the look of your car. It also has to look after your needs. 1 kid soon becomes 2. Kids grow up, have birthday parties, have friends over etc etc.

I think CLS looks great. If it's a car for a few years only then it will tick your boxes.

If your looking for a long term motor then perhaps think again and look for a car that ticks all boxes. Maybe non merc as well.

Whatever you do, but a car that turns you on.

I have had my CLS for 5.5 years .. the longest I have had any car for.

even now, when I look at it, it makes me happy

I am trading my CLS in against a C350e. The CLS is the nuts and even with the poke of the 350CDI I got 54mpg on a 150 mile run around the M25 and M4 today. So why change ? I just find it too big parking at places like the station and everyday parking. I had a new C Class petrol demo for a few days before ordering the C350e and didn't feel cramped - I'm 6 1" and I found the sunroof helped at it opens upwards. I know everytime I will see the C Class I'll miss the looks of the CLS but cheered myself up by getting every conceivable toy !

I've had to make this same decision.

I went E-Class Estate for the following reasons:
1. Practicality. Fits the whole family in comfortably with lots of room for bikes, scooters etc in the boot.
2. Comfort. I drove the C and E Class and there was no comparison. E-Class was more comfortable. CLS super comfy too - but design no longer does it for me.
3. Image. E-Class, like a VW Golf is a classic and is a model that will be around for a while.
4. Cracking deals on E Class. I fully loaded mine and still felt I got a good deal.

With that said - my only regret is not taking the Tesla more seriously. A bit more cash but could justify with zero ongoing pump costs.

We've had our cls since March this year and love it. It works for short as well as long distances and looks and feels just as good on the inside as on the outside. There is plenty of room in the back even for large adults which is a plus over the c class and any other compact saloons with 3 "seats" in the back. If you haven't already done so I would recommend a test drive and make sure you get onto a dual carriageway.

Whatever car you choose it's best to go for a car you enjoy!

Yes this has 5 seats IIRC however the Mrs does not approve of its size. So its a veto from that side.

Surely it's the same size, no? I thought my C and Estates were the same lengths as their saloon counterparts?

If so I'd got for the shooting brake. The 5th seat will come in handy as will the load area for all that baby gubbins especially if you have another one.
