Hello, I have just purchased a 1998 c240 and would like to ask a couple of questions.
How do I remove the plastic cover from the top of the engine? so that I can check the power steering resevior.
What is the round cap like thing just in front of the oil filler cap? it has 25nm marked on it.
Thanks
Graham

Hi there Chatteris.

Good choice of engine!! To remove the engine cover just lift it up. It is clipped down and the clips are just an interference fit. Try one corner at a time and up she comes. The round jobbie is the oil filter housing.

Hello Nick, thanks for the info, is the oil filter a replacement element inside the cap?, and can you recommend a good oil for the v6 engine, I intend to change it every 4500 miles same as my other vehicles.
Thanks
Regards

Yes it is, and I think the oil is a 5w-40 synthetic. If you are changing it as frequently as 4500 miles it probably won't matter exactly which one you put in unless you live in either the desert or the north pole.

Moved to Engine Section.

As mentioned by Nick, the plastic cover just pulls off via clips that clamp onto rubber mounts. As for oil, I use Mobil 1 fully synth in mine :) Also used by my local dealership when in for servicing too.

Welcome to the forum. :)
