Folding A Class wing mirror

I have an A Class Mercedes - the version before this new shape.
It has electrically folding mirrors.
I hit the passenger side mirror on electric gates that had stopped opening, so not much damage as I can see, but it won't fold in or out. I can hear the motor run. The mirror itself is fine and works.
Any ideas has to how to put it back?

Have you tried folding it in manually? Is it stuck in open or folded position?

I can fold it manually but then won't move whatever its position.
However when moved, it doesn't seem exactly right.

Mine will only fold, if I kick them really hard (and won't fold back out), so this is one problem I'm unlikely to have, until I retrofit the folding mirrors that is
