I know the place ;) lovely food.

My favourites are:

"Fogo de Chão" in Chicago

and, of course, my own kitchen.

Veeraswamy is not allowed:( How is it these days? I havn't been since they spent a fortune wrenching it out of it's old colonial style. One of the oldest Indian retaurants in London I think. Nearly next door is Bentleys, another old favourite, but I can't mention that because it's in London:D

All Southwest based (I don't get out much!!!)

*Another vote for Moody Goose in Bath
*Charlton House, Shepton Mallet
*Dartmoor Inn, Lydford

Londons best indian is http://www.vineetbhatia.com/ without a doubt...
The ambience, service and food are out of this world...

Yes, I think he was the first Indian Restaurant to get a star.......still he's in London so it doesn't count!!

Looks like Moody Goose is ahead by one point!!

I'll give Moody Goose my vote too.

The chef now owns the Old Priory in Midsummer Norton, we stayed in February and the food was excellent.
The star stays with the kitchen, not the cook, so the dinner was as great as expected.
Then town was not as murder mystery as expected but there was a sign on the local pub door warning off the local ASBO holders!

Mmm, the Venice one I know well and it really is very good, a bit expensive true, the London one I have not tried because the reviews have mostly been pretty awful. I know reviews are not always right but when ten people tell you your flies are undone....maybe they are!

I also know the one in Venice.

I think you must be thinking of another Harry's Bar, although i don't know of another in London. Where is it located in London ? Then i can let you know if you have the correct one. Ten bad reviews amazing :(

Mea culpo mea massimo culpo.:o

I was clearly suffering from a serious form of digestive loopback.

It went like this.

Harry's Bar Venice is owned by the Cipriani's. The Ciprianis opened a new restaurant in London. It got slated. Ergo Harry's Bar is Naff. Not so, the new place is called, wait for it, The Cipriani!!

Harry's Bar London has zip to do with it's Venice counterpart, other than for giving Mark Birley the inspiration to open it back in 1978.

That said there are several Harry's Bars in London, but most people refer to the South Audley Street one as being THE Harrys Bar.

Once again apologies. Just shows you shouldn't believe everything you read!

Moody Goose is still winning tho;)

Form me it has to be

Kinghams (Shere, Nr Guildford)
Spice (New York, West 22nd & 8th)
Waggamammas (Guildford)

This is a very long shot but based on the "Where have you been" thread and this one :

3 times I have been to New York and eaten at an Italian in Greenwich Village where you go in and he has a room of about 40 covers in the front, the walls are covered from ceiling to floor with photos of stars who have allegedly eaten there and signed the pictures for him. If he is busy, you get sent into the back yard that he has done out in white plastic barbeque furniture.

You sit where there is a space. You get asked if you would like wine, if your answer is yes, the next question is "red or white". You don't get asked what you want to eat, you get a choice of about 8 starters that he dishes up as he comes around the restaurant and the same with the main courses.

I know what I have written does not inspire, but I just love it. There is no pretence, you wanted wine and you wanted food, that's exactly what you get and its all for about $30 the atmosphere is brilliant.

Trouble is, having been there 3 times (and we only found it the last time by accident) I cannot for the life of me remember the name - anyone help me out here ?

Not a million miles away:

The Olive Branch
Main Street
Clipsham
Rutland

Plus:

The Cuckoo
20 Oundle Road
Alwalton
Peterborough

and as mentioned before Momma's in Brighton. All fab

You are very well informed sir, aplogy accepted. Mr Birley has most of that part of Mayfair to himself with Marks Club Annabell's and the new one George's, although his son has taken over now as his father has been ill for some time.

You are quite right Cipriani's has had very bad reviews.

This sounds like fun - we're going to NY in October so if you do remember the name please let me know?

In fairness it has received numerous awards and has featured on our local TV.
Also national TV:bannana:
Kate Humble was here last week filming a program about fishing, due to go out in July.

Having just read the menu and looked at the prices, I may just move down there, seems cheaper than Up here. You have some nerve Howard I will grant you that ;) So all round to Cap'n Jaspers after the Torquay GTG?

I was surprised to see that Geordie Dickson is still plying his trade.

Happy days!

John
