It's quite likely that there was an electrical issue with the Lotus cars

Isn't that a mix of led lights and the frames rate of the vid, see it all the time on the telly with DRLs.

You beat me - I've seen this concept on Top Gear videos too with tail lights.

You normally get a clear brake flashing on cars which have the "I'm braking bloody hard" facility.

The sound of a lot of those cars makes it sound like they are going faster than they actually are too.

It's not as if they were power sliding as they filtered onto the road
