Frankfurters and green cars

Its a fact that so called hybrid or battery cars are far more harmful to the environment on a life cycle basis than any other car.

The batteries need to be disposed of at some point. The manufacturing of them is horrendously destructive to the environment. Witness the mining of the raw materials.

How much of a hybrid car can be re cycled at end of life or is indeed made of recycled materials!

I would hate to be in a serious accident involving a prius or similar. Imagine having to deal with leaking batteries all over the road!

I totally agree.

I thought batteries were reprocessed now, not simply disposed of. I don't think disposal is legal.

As far as being in an accident and the batteries leaking, aren't they glass mat batteries to stop leakage, and in addition the battery compartment is as safe as the petrol tank, so they shouldn't be affected any more than that.

How would you fancy petrol leaking all over the road? I know which I'd prefer.

I'm not a particularly big fan of hybrid and especially not petrol ones, but I'd possibly buy a diesel one.

.

I'd prefer petrol rather than acid. Its a lot easier to clean up.

Countries like Sweden have have laws in place for 25 years for disposing of consumer batteries like AA and PP3 and watch batteries, if you are caught putting one in your refuge bag the fine is high. these things contain mercury.

The recycling laws are almost in place to make the manufacture of harmful difficult to dispose of goods to take them back.
